MAKING Your Home a Smart Home

In today’s digital age, turning your home into a smart home can enhance convenience, security, and energy efficiency. With a variety of devices available, making your living space more connected is easier than ever. Here’s a guide on how to transform your home into a smart haven.

Make it a whole day trip starting with breakfast and stay into the evening for a show!

Here's my perfect fall day itinerary for a trip to Stoughton!

1. Start your day with a maple latte and carrot cake scone at Wildwood Cafe. Their fall menu features a Monster Mash Hash and Ghost Toast, an avo toast with spicy chili oil perfect for a longer stay.

2. Take your latte to go and head down Main Street to shop for gourd and pumpkin candles at Dune, Halloween dog toys at The Crazy Dog Mom shop, a cozy fall sweatshirt at Grasshopper Goods and a sweet treat at Yahara Chocolate.

3. Head just outside of town to Viking County Park for a hike along the Yahara River…

Renting is often the first chapter in the journey to finding a place to call home. It’s not just a temporary situation; it’s a valuable opportunity to discover what you truly want in a living space. Renting allows you to explore different neighborhoods, test your lifestyle preferences, and save for future investments.

However, the reality in Madison is that rent is on the rise. The average rent has now reached $1,685, reflecting a 4.8% year-over-year increase (sourced from the National Apartment Association). With projections indicating that Madison will welcome over 100,000 new residents by 2050, resulting in a 37% population increase, it’s essential to recognize that rental prices are likely to continue climbing.

Unfortunately, between the earnest money, inspection, appraisal and additional closing costs, the sheer amount of funds required to purchase is a major obstacle to purchasing a home.  And yet there is a way. The local real estate market has offered both challenges and opportunities this summer. Here are the current market trends that we have been seeing throughout these hot few months.

1. Stable Home Prices

In August, home prices in Madison had been relatively stable. Yes, there are always exceptions, and a listing that far exceeds the expectations due to an unbelievably cute back yard or so much move-in-ready appeal that it sells for far more than it is worth, but according to recent data, the median home price remains relatively consistent compared to the past few months. Currently, the median price hovers around $420,000 for all of Dane County, a slight increase from last year but not indicative of the dramatic shifts seen in other markets. This…
