One of the biggest trends that we see in home buying has nothing to do with buying a home for your own needs. Rather, it is all about finding a home that fits the lifestyle for you and…. your dog(s)! The Husky Homes team is obviously no stranger to pet-friendly accommodations, and we especially love helping hopeful homebuyers find the properties that our canine friends will love for years to come.
Features that we hear time and time again that are important to dog owners have everything to do with the layout and space of the home and yard. When Fluffy needs to go outside, is there easy access to the backyard with an exterior door and level lot, or does the dog have to go out the door, down the deck, and across the stone patio to finally get onto the grass? Additionally, the yard space is obviously essential. While a tall privacy fence is typically optimal, the neighborhood allowing fences is a minimum requirement. We hear time and time again that the invisible fences just don’t work for certain breeds – as a mom of two crazy huskies, I get it.
If a home with a large yard isn’t in the budget, then amenities like neighborhood sidewalks and/or a proximity to green spaces or dog parks is just as good. In Dane County alone, we have 8 off-leash dog parks covering nearly 300 acres! With more and more local businesses (breweries, restaurants, coffee shops, and more) allowing dogs every year, Dane County is the perfect place to settle down, and travel around, with your dog.
With new construction homes, we’ve seen a lot of creative ways to bring dog-friendly features into a design-conscious space. Dog doors leading to the exterior OR to a separate indoor space/garage is a common attribute, as well as the addition of tiled dog wash stations in mud rooms. My favorite feature that I have seen is built-in, pull-out dog bowl areas in the kitchen that can just as easily hide away. Some even have their own faucets for our thirsty pups that need frequent refills!
We love helping our Husky Pack find accommodation for their canine friends, and we know the features that are important to dog owners to make life a little easier as a dog mom or dad.
