Solveig's Favorite October Activities
The temperature is finally falling into the 60s, and while I don't want it to fall too fast, I'm embracing the cooler weather. It finally feels seasonally appropriate to do all the fall things. We are so excited to host all of our wonderful clients at Schuster's Farm at the end of the month.
Schuster's is an annual experience for our family. Since we live in Stoughton, it's a quick drive to Deerfield for all the apple cider donuts we can eat, pumpkin picking, really a full day's worth of fall fun. Bring a non-perishable food item to donate to Second Harvest & we'll cover your admission! We'll also have donuts & cider for you to nibble on & sip while you walk around the farm.
Schuster's has a huge corn maze, barnyard animals, silly and cute games for the kids like duck races, pygmy putt putt, and a fun "playground" made from tractors, hay wagons and more. Lots and lots of pumpkins for that final surge of Halloween decor (but pumpkins and gourds make great Thanksgiving season decor too!), and make sure to stop at the bakery for goodies to take home.
Another local favorite we checked out a few weeks ago, before I could really get into the fall spirit (HOT!), is Enchanted Valley Acres in Cross Plains. Another magical stop for fall fun - it is famous for it's slide (see video - yes, I did it as well and laughed the whole way down, only once!!), but it also has a big corn maze - we did the very funny "Farm Scene Investigation", a mix between a murder mystery and old fashioned map reading, where the kids (or the adults) find their way to locations in the maze - clues to solve the mystery of who kidnapped Farmer Joe - where and with what weapon! LOL. Super cute, and it took us about 30 minutes to get through the maze (with adults reading the map).
My daughter and her cousins who joined us, played every single game and on every little playground on the farm - of which there are too many to remember. The hamster wheel racing was pretty fantastic. We finished the day with some Kona Ice (as I said, it was HOT), but they also serve fall favorites like brats, hot dogs, caramel apples and donuts, of course. You can get your pumpkins and gourds here too!
On our way out, a group arrived to release a hot air balloon to the kids delight, and it couldn't have been a better end to a fun day at the farm. Enchanted Valley Acres' Fun Fun hours are 9:00am-6:00pm Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Our client appreciation event at Schuster's Farm is Sunday, October 24 11:00am-1:00pm. See you then!
