Dudgeon-Monroe Neighborhood

Dudgeon-Monroe is one of Madison's most desirable, trendy, and hip places to live. The Monroe Street corridor is scaled to pedestrians with neighborhood shops (coffee, ice cream, ethnic dining) in historic storefronts. A fine art center, galleries, and neighborhood jazz fest (Jazz in the Park) are venues for the artsy folks. Cozy, two-story homes with front porches line the quiet residential streets. Downtown Madison, University of Wisconsin, and the hospitals are within a 1-2 mile radius of the neighborhood making it an ideal location to live for academic staff and students to families with young families to young professionals. An afternoon boating on Lake Wingra, walking along the paths in the University of Wisconsin-Arboretum, rollerblading on the Southwest Bike Path, or eating garlic mustard dishes at the Annual Weed Feed are only a few features that make this older neighborhood a fun place to live.

Here are a few reasons we love the Dudgeon-Monroe St Neighborhood:

Furry friends: Dudgeon Monroe is a dog friendly neighborhood and opportunities abound to pet many good dogs. There is a hidden area for walking dogs adjacent to the Glenway Golf Course where locals have been meeting up for dog playdates for decades. You’ll find walk path entrances from the Southwest Commuter bike path.

Community: The @MonroeStreetFarmersMarket at Edgewood High School on Sundays from May 2nd – October 16 is a wonderful place to meet local residents and farmers as well as enjoy live music and kids’ activities. @MonroeStreetMadison coordinates the Monroe St Festival in September, a day filled with demonstrations, music, dancing, games, and activities.

Dining: Monroe Street is full of restaurants well worth a visit. Make reservations for dinner at @FairchildRestaurant for their stunning dishes and warm hospitality and follow them on IG to hear about upcoming wine dinners. Madison Magazine awarded Fairchild’s Chef Itaru Nagano Chef of the Year! For lunch, check out @PizzaBrutta for woodfired Neapolitan pizza and enjoy their house-made mozzarella. Hot tip: bring Pizza Brutta carry out across the street to @GarthsBrewBar to enjoy their impressive selection of draft & canned beers. For breakfast, stop by the walk-up window at @BloomBakeShop for a sweet potato donut and then head down to @MadisonChocolate for a ghost pepper latte and a salted caramel chocolate. Both Bloom and Madison Chocolate Company specialize in gluten free items.

Activities: Hop on a Madison City E-bike and ride down to @WingraBoats for a kayak, SUP, or paddle boat rental and pack a picnic for Wingra Park. The Glenway Golf Course is undergoing a complete renovation, reopening summer 2022!
